Aims, contents and method of the course

In applied conservation, the comprehensive knowledge of species and their biology is an important requirement to quantify the conservation relevance of human activities on habitats and their species assemblages. In the framework of this course we will give an introduction on the fauna and flora of the Vienna region. Furthermore, participants will learn the identification of species und higher taxa.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment of performance in the field; short presentations on species groups; preparation of a determination key for 5 selected species.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of selected plant and animal groups (e.g. vascular plants, butterflies, birds); understanding of species-specific threats.
