300442 VO Functional Stream Ecology (2007W)

This class will focus on biogeochemistry and microbial ecology of running waters. Based on timely conceptual and empirical knowledge, we will focus on the downstream transport and transformation of solutes, particles and pathogens, and on microbial biofilms as major reactive sites. We will then move beyond the linear dimension of streams and rivers, and address the issue of running waters as branching networks and their implications for coastal waters.
