Aims, contents and method of the course

History of discovering of plant mineral nutrition;
principles of Ion uptake;
short distance and long distance transport mechanisms;
relationships between water and ion uptake;
nitrogen assimilation;
biochemical and physiological role of the main macro- and micro-
nutrients (K, Ca, Mg; N, S, P);
mechanisms of ion balance in plant cells;
Ecology of mineral nutrition: plant life on limestone and silicate soils,
tolerance mechanisms to NaCl and to other adverse chemical soil
conditions.
