300452 VO Biology of Cognition - From Neurons to Culture (2009W)

This lecture for advanced students, having already learned about the basic issues of animal cognition (Animal Cognition 1 and 2), aims at deepening the understanding of how animals and humans solve complex cognitive tasks. The entire course will be devoted to only one hot topic in the field, chosen from four themes that are covered in subsequent semesters. The lecture is research centered, that is it will venture around actual empirical studies, will include questions about methodology, and will aim at an understanding of the issues "below the surface". The lecture also has an emphasis on interdisciplinary work, crossing the gap between natural sciences and humanities.
