Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Basic theoretical principles and methodological handlings of selective processes should be represented by the lecture, it is mainly intended for advanced students of biology. The following topics will be thoroughly explained: natural and artificial selection, sexual s., stabilizing, disruptive and directional s., frequency dependent s., components of fitness, absolute and relative fitness, individual fitness, coefficient of s., adaptation, components of phenotypic variance, heritability, estimations of heritability, relations between s. and heritability (univariate and multivariate), response to s., correlated response to s., pleiotropic and polygenic characters, threshold characters, norm of reaction and phenotypic plasticity, canalization and genetic assimilation, multivariate models of s. (LANDE's model, logistic regression approach), s. differential and s. gradient, s. intensity, fitness landscape.
Finally, LANDE's model will be demonstrated by interactive visualizations (3D, MS-DOS or Linux).
