Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Vor-Ort-Lehre

The course will introduce to scripting and customising of ArcGIS and QGis and to basic GIS capabilities in R. The main aim of the course is teaching automatization and speeding up GIS workflows. The course will combine introductory lectures with practical work. Lectures will introduce in programming basics and concepts (Python and R). Practical work will include vector data manipulation, mapping automatization, raster data processing, creation of toolboxes and a usage of web map services. Similar workflows will be run through on different platforms and interfaces.

Assessment and permitted materials

Positive evaluation requires regular presence and active work during the course.
Participants will work in groups of two. Each group will have its own 'project'. Evaluation will be based on work during the course and on the evaluation of the produced scripts.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course requires familiarity with ArcGIS or QGis (or equivalent software). Previous participation in the course “VO 300012 + UE 300028 Geodaten und räumliche Analyse GIS1“ is advantageous and highly recommended. Skilled handling of GIS GUIs (basic mapping and analysing of GIS data in desktop GIS) is a prerequisite for this course and will not be taught. Though, programming skills are not required.
