Aims, contents and method of the course

Within the lecture block, students are informed about general aspects of National Parks and other large-sclae protected areas, esp. in Austria: conservation objectives, management plans, administration, research and education activities, conflicts of interests with residents and/or neighboors, natural and biological pecularities, etc. Within the excursion block National Parks / PAs in Austria (for exampleThaya Valley, River Meadows of the Danube, Lake Neusiedlersee, and Gesäuse in Styria) or Croatia are visited. Together with local National Park responsibles and managers, the visitor centers are frequented and excursions to sensible areas of the single National Parks are organized.

Assessment and permitted materials

The performance assessment takes the form of a written exam. You have to answer five questions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For each question you can get a maximum of four points.
Very good 18 - 20 points
Good 15 - 17 points
Satisfactory 12 - 14 points
Sufficient 10 - 11 points
Insufficient 0 - 9 points
