Es ist vorgesehen, die Vorlesung als Blockveranstaltung im Mai/Juni 2009 im Seminarraum 1 oder 2, im 2. Stock der Universitätsinstitute Kinderspitalgasse abzuhalten.
Die Vorbesprechung wird Anfang Mai 2009 stattfinden.
Die genauen Termine der Vorlesung werden dann mit den Teilnehmern der Vorbesprechung abgesprochen.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Topics of the lecture:
- Epidemiology of HIV infection / AIDS
- Origin of HIV; routes and risk factors for HIV infection;
- Symptoms of HIV disease; pathogenesis
- Biochemistry of the replication cycle of HIV: target molecules
for chemotherapy
- Inhibitors of adsorption / penetration/ uncoating
- Inhibitors of reverse transcription / integration
- Inhibitors of protease and maturation of virus particles
- Cellular factors, e. g. cytokines, chemokines, as potential
target molecules for chemotherapy
- Status and new approaches towards the development of an
effective vaccine

This lecture is suitable for students of Medicine as well as for students of Microbiology / Molecular Biology.
The lecture will be given as a block in May/June 2009 in the seminar room 1 or 2, on the 2nd floor of the Medical University Institutes, Kinderspitalgasse. In April a meeting will be announced about the topics of this lecture; at this occasion the precise dates of the lecture will be agreed with the interested students.
