Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Species richness of animals is changing significantly along elevational gradients. However, patterns vary between taxonomic groups thereby reflecting differences in features such as thermoregulatory requirements or food availability. In the frameworkt of this field course we will study the diversity of butterflies and birds in different vegetation belts ranging from coastal lowland forest to upper montane forest. The field work will be done in several National Parks in West Java (Indonesia) together with students of the Agricultural University Bogor. The course will include an introduction in statistical methods of biodiversity research, as well as the elaboration and presentation of data.
