Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course deals with the aquirement of a detailed knowledge about the main taxonomic groups and fish species in European inland waters, with the main focus of all occuring fishes in Austria, including invaders. A main aim is the knowledge transfer of the application of morphometric and meristic charakteristics and features of fishes. The Biology of fishes, their behaviour and sensory systems are presented on the example of species in different habitats during lectures. Visits of the collections in the Museum of Natural History and of the aquaria of the Zoo are conducted to supplement the practical analyses.
