Aims, contents and method of the course
Starting with an overview of the holocene climate, this lecture series presents in-depth information and case studies on the current climate change and its effects. The first part deals with climate history, the state of the art of climatological methods and climate change detection, the current climate situation, and climate forecasts. In the second part we focus on the climatic coupling of, and impacts of climate change on, the world's biomes, ecosystems, and selected species, with respect to marine, limnic, and terrestrial systems as well as to indigenous and industrial human populations. The third part is concerned with methods of ecological climate change monitoring, statistical problems therein, and relevant aspects of nature conservation.
