Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture series introduces the theoretical basis and concepts of evolutionary biology. The first part focuses on an historical overview of evolutionary concepts and the various facets of the homology concepts, including their role in reconstructing evolution. The second part is dedicated to concepts in population genetics: Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, mutations, selection, genetic drift, coalescence, population structure & migration, molecular population genetics and quantitative genetics.
Assessment and permitted materials
Student performance is assessed by a written examination.
