Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture series introduces the theoretical basis and concepts of evolutionary biology. The first part focuses on an historical overview of evolutionary concepts and the various facets of the homology concepts, including their role in reconstructing evolution. The second part is dedicated to concepts in developmental biology and evolution of social systems.

Assessment and permitted materials

Student performance is assessed by a written examination (60 min).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students are familiar with the historical changes in evolutionary concepts from greek philosophers to the present day. They gain deeper insight in homology concepts and their role in in evolutionary theory. They are aware of conceptual contributions of delevopmental biology to evolutionary biology and of scientific progress in social system evolution.
