Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture considers the evolutionary processes involved with formation of the plant world and adaptive strategies for ecological changes through geological time. Focus is on the basic aspects of organic evolution by means of natural selection, plus examination of the phylogeny of different plant groups from the first land plants to modern flowering plants.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written examination at the end of the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Expectation is that the students will learn clearly all dimensions of the evolutionary process, i.e., microevolution, macroevolution, and apply this understanding also to other biology courses. It is also anticipated that they will learn the broad changes in vegetation on Earth over 500 million years of evolutionary time.
