Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
For students who are at any stage of writing (or are not yet writing) a thesis or dissertation, or who just want to improve their scientific writing in English. Course work will include writing assignments, and students can receive feedback and advice on their current writing projects and will benefit from discussions of each other's work. The course will include some exercises on communicating science to non-scientific audiences.
Assessment and permitted materials
Evaluation is based on attendance and active participation (50%) and completion of writing and assessment assignments (50%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance is required: two absences (excused or unexcused) will be allowed before your grade is affected, and you must attend at least 9 class meetings in order to earn a passing grade. This will be a small class and consistent active participation is expected.
Examination topics
Evaluation is continuous (prüfungsimmanent) - i.e. no exams.
Reading list
There will be weekly reading and homework assignments, some of which will include a written assignment to be collected in class.
