ECTS points: 3
The lecture deals with the butterflies of Austria and its main emphasis, apart from guidelines towards their identification, is on the abiotic and biotic factors governing their occurrence and the hazards of human impact. During the second half of the semester field demonstrations in selected butterfly habitats in Vienna and surroundings will be conducted to explain the significance of ecological factors to butterfly occurrence including micro structure and climate, availability of adult and larval food resources, and the importance of land use systems. Training will be conducted to enable the correct identification of most native species in the field.
