Aims, contents and method of the course

the translational machinery (reminder);
translationally controlled mRNAs (identification, abundance); signal transduction and translation (H. Dolznig); translation and cancer development (H. Dolznig); regulatoriy elements in UTRs (TOPs, 5'uORFs) and RNA binding proteins; IRESs in viral and cellular systems; mRNA maturation, export and stability (NMD, ARE-elements, IRE/IRP system); translational control and stress (heat shock, amino acid starvation, early apoptosis, PERK); digest on translation control in embryogenesis and development

Assessment and permitted materials

single written exam at the end of semester, thereafter oral exam, date on demand

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

transcription control and protein phosphorylation is not everything - quod erat demonstrandum

Examination topics

Powerpoint presentation, lecture in German, slides almost exclusively in English; material will be made available as PDF online shortly before the lecture - tablet use welcome
