Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Analysis of organ-specific accumulation of special secondary plant metabolites (e.g. exudate compounds, root constituents); introduction and application of selected separation techniques for isolation and structural identification; functional aspects, significance of compounds in systematics and coevoloution.

Assessment and permitted materials

Labwork: 40%
Protocol: 60%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of phytochemical analytical methods and correct interpretation of data. Ability to apply these methods to other scientific questions.

Examination topics

Phytochemical methods of separation and detection; bioassays 8functional aspects); interpretation of data in relation to aspects of chemodiversity (coevolution, systematics).
