Aims, contents and method of the course
Analysis of organ-specific accumulation of special secondary plant metabolites (e.g. exudate compounds, root constituents); introduction and application of selected separation techniques for isolation and structural identification; functional aspects, significance of compounds in systematics and coevoloution.
Assessment and permitted materials
Knowledge of phytochemical analytical methods and correct interpretation of data. Ability to apply these methods to other scientific questions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Protocol: 80%, practical work 20%. Positive credit from 51% onwards.
Examination topics
Phytochemical methods of separation and detection; bioassays & functional aspects); interpretation of data in relation to aspects of chemodiversity (coevolution, systematics).
