Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture provides an introduction to basic statistical methods. The aim is the understanding of classical statistical procedures, so that the participants are able to analyse their own data by themselves. First, an introduction to the calculation and meaning of statistical parameters in relation to the scale of the data is given. On the basis of the normal distribution, the principle of a statistical test and the probability of error are explained. Beside a selection of parametric and non-parametric statistical tests, the lecture deals with themes such as confidence intervals, estimation of sample numbers, correlations and regressions. For a better understanding, examples for each topic are calculated using computers (Excel, SPSS as a statistical software). The lecture is required for the attendance of the course '859035 Quantitative Süßwasserökologie', but it can also be attended by anyone who is interested.
