Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the practical course is to train students in how to i) approach scientific questions, ii) design and conduct experiments and iii) disseminate the findings via oral presentations and a written report. Students will work in small teams on research projects currently pursued in the Dept. of Cognitive Biology, allowing them to get a glimpse on the empirical side of hot topics in cognition. The course shall raise awareness of what is needed in research and prepare students for conducting their master thesis. The empirical project is structured in three units: i) development of a project proposal, ii) data collection and analysis and iii) presentation of results

Oral presentations, written report; quality in participation (data collection, analysis, discussion)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Conduction of empirical study, oral presentation of concepts and results, written report
To pass the course you need to deliver a written report on the empirical findings of the chosen research topic and must not be absent more than two times in the monthly meetings. The oral presentations during monthly meetings are scored on a scale between 1-10, the participation in the discussions are scored on a scale between 1-3; the engagement and quality of the empirical work are scored on a scale from 1-5 and the written report is scored on a scale from 1-5 as well.
