Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course consists of two parts, an introduction to bryophytes, their threats and strategies for their protection. After the theoretical part, on a field trip lasting several days, an overview of broyphytes in their major habitats will be given. Woods, bogs and fens, gorges, alpine meadows and dry grasslands will be visited. Identification in the field, ecology threats and conservation strategies of bryophytes will be discussed. The excursion will be lead limestone areas in the surroundings of Lunz as well as to dry grasslands in the Pannonic area.
Overnight stays will be at Lunz, overall good physical conditions for a several hours lasting walk in steep pathless areas will be required.

Assessment and permitted materials

Compilation of a protocoll containing information on the field trip and lecture

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will understand the distribution of bryophytes in a range of ecosystems and be aware of their endangerement and measure for protection of these species
