Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Classical and modern biotechnology strongly influence agricultural systems and production of foods. Different production ways are well known for their significant impact on the environment and on environmental health.
This course will focus on the development of modern methods of biotechnology in food production. It will give a review on the recent state and future developments using data from OECD and FAO/WHO. It will also give a summary of concepts of internationally developed risk assessment models for novel foods and their impact on human health and the environment as well as on the integration of risk assessment, risk management and risk communication.

Recent literature will be discussed for the aspects of consequences of gene flow from GMO to the environment as well as for consequences of modern biotechnology for sustainablity in agriculture.
