This course deals with theoretical (overall philosophy, IUCN, CITES) and practical aspects of nature conservation and species protection, with the emphasis in the marine realm being on whales, sea turtles and coral reefs.
Assessment and permitted materials
nächster Prüfungstermin: 3. Nov. 2010, 16:30, Besprechungszimmer Ökologie (neben Sekretariat). Wahrscheinlich mündlich (wenn unter 4 Personen). Anmeldung bei: stachom5@univie.ac.at bis 27. Oktober 2010
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This course is designed to give students an introduction into the issues of nature conservation and species protection. An important aspect is to distinguish between what is on paper and what the situation is on site. Students get an insight into what they can expect when they volunteer for nature conservation work or focus their studies on nature conservation.
Examination topics
We teach using a combination of overheads and powerpoint presentations. The coral and sea turtle lectures of the marine part also use a large number of color slides based on 20 years of experience and photodocumentation in the field.
