300697 VO History of Anthropology (2009W)

The lecture deals with the history of the discipline in Austria and will contribute to the understanding of contemporary Anthropology. Starting with the basic circumstances of the institutionalization period, in particular the endeavors of the Anthropological Society, the lecture will address the main topics of research between 1860 and 1900 by discussing biographies of involved protagonists, their ideas and their contributions; the second part will be used for selected periods, e.g., the pre-WWI and post-WWI period as well as the NS-time.
