Aims, contents and method of the course
On the basis of c0mparative embryology of metazoans, examples of molecular principles underlying fundamental processes of development will be presented: The lecture will discuss the following subjects: axis formation in Bilateria and Prebilateria ("Radiata"), germ layer formation and differentiation, morphogenetic processes (e.g. gastrulation, neurulation, convergent extension), Neural induction, migration of neuronal precursor cells, limb formation in vertebrates, somite formation in vertebrates, Segmentation in Insects and vertebrates, pattern formation in imaginal discs of Drosophila
