Participants are expected to have a good knowledge of immunology and the regulation of gene expression. This knowledge should be at least at the level of the course301260 Immunology and Cellular Microbiology, Part A and 301123 Gene Expression of the Bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Vienna.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Advanced education in immunobiology through:
1) lectures addressing current topics in immunobiology
2) presentation and discussion of recent publications in the area of immunobiology
3) independent seminar thesis on a current topic in immunobiology
The focus of the proseminar is on molecular Mechanisms of the antiviral and antibacterial response of the immune system, immunometabolism and immunology of the skin.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam on the topics covered by lectures and presented papers, quality if the presentation, quality of the seminar thesis.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Evaluation of individual parts (exam, presentation and seminar thesis): maximal 10 points in each part; 10 - 8,9 = 1 (very good); 8,8 - 7,6 = 2 (good); 7,5 - 6,3 = 3 (satisfactory); 6,2 - 5,1 = 4 (sufficient); 5 and below = 5 (insufficient)
The final grade is calculated according to the following key: exam - 50%, paper presentation - 20%, proseminar thesis - 30%. Positive grade must be obtained in each of the three categories.
