Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to understand fundamental concepts in molecular cell biology.
Content of the lecture series (15 lectures). Covers fundamental concepts in cell biology, including intracellular transport, endomembrane system, cytoskeleton, cell cycle, cell division, autophagy and cell death.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (90 Minuten). 8 questions based on material covered in the lecture series, which can be answered in either English or German.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Evidence of a basic understanding of important cell biological concepts.
Grading scheme (a maximum of 40 points is achievable):
36-40 points: very good (1)
31-35 points: good (2)
26-30 points: satisfactory (3)
20-25 points: sufficient (4)
<20 points: insufficient (5)

Examination topics

Content of lecture series and relevant chapters from Molecular Biology of the Cell. Further reading suggested for each topic is meant to broaden understanding of the topics covered but not directly tested in the exam.

Reading list

Slides as well as further literature available via Moodle shortly prior to each lecture.
Molecular Biology of the Cell Alberts et al., 6th edition, chapters 9-13, 16-18.
