Registration/Deregistration

Note: The time of your registration within the registration period has no effect on the allocation of places (no first come, first served).
Registration information is available for each group.

Groups

Group 1

In case non-German speaking students participate we, of course, will teach in English!

max. 8 participants
Language: German, English
LMS: Moodle

Lecturers

Classes (iCal) - next class is marked with N

Preliminary Meeting: Thu, March 8th, 2018; 10.30am-11.00am (attendance mandatory)
Seminar room 3, 6th floor, MFPL

Registration for one of the two courses offered sufficient. Simple registration via U:Space does not necessarily mean a fixed seat.
In case of overbooking the head of the course will select people on the basis of career status and the demand on performing microscopic experiments in the course of a Master/PhD-thesis in a group.
Seat limitation: 8 (per course; in total 16)
Course Language: English
More schedule and programme details at the preliminary meeting.

Dates: all days are full-day (unless otherwise noted)
Course1: April 10,11,12,16,17; May 2,3 2018 (Mandatory attendance at all days)
Course 2: April 10,11 (9-12.30 only); April 12, 18, 25, 26; May 2+3; 2018 (Mandatory attendance at all days)

Location: VBC5, MFPL, Dr. Bohrg.9, 1030 Vienna

Thursday 08.03. 10:30 - 11:00 BZB EDV-Raum CCR01, 6.Ebene 6.505, Dr.-Bohr-Gasse 9, 1030 Wien

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Theoretical basis of fluorescence and confocal microscopy

technical description of equipment

Wet lab experience sample preparation
Quality criteria for dealingwith aberrations correction

practical microscopy of selected samples by fluorescence- and confocal microscopy (multichannel detection, serial optical sections through samples, image projections, generation of time series)

image analysis and deconvolution of selected images

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the course is to give theoretical and practical support to students, who are or will in the near future be involved with light microscopical experiments within their Master/PhD/post-doc studies. The small groups (2 people) will allow to advice students somehow personally for their planned experimental approaches.

Examination topics

microscopy sample preparation
widefield fluorescence microscopy (incl. Köhler and contrast enhancement)
measuring point spread function and chromatic aberration
confocal microscopy
image processing using "huygens" and ImageJ software
