Alle Übungsräume dürfen ausschließlich mit Labormantel und geschlossenen Schuhen betreten werden, ebenso muss bei Bedarf eine Laborbrille angeschafft werden. Privatsachen bitte in den Garderoberäumen verstauen.

All practice rooms may only be entered with a lab coat and closed shoes, also lab glasses must, if needed, be purchased. Please store private belongings in the cloakroom.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course requires students to have already basic knowledge in scientific methods and expertise in molecular laboratory work (inlcuding pipetting)

Content/Focus: Methods and basic principles of developmental biology and neurobiology, with a focus on the marine bristle worm Platynereis dumerilii and the marine sponge Suberites domuncula.
Techniques: microinjection, mutant analysis, transgenesis, RNA detection (in situ hybridization), FACS, RNA quantification (qPCR), microscopic methods

Aims: Understanding, Peformance and analysis of laboratory experiments in the framework of neurobiology and developmental biology.

Methods:
- Laboratory practical (with different techniques)
- preparation of joint presentations (together with other participants) on (i) scientific background and (ii) the own results
- written summary of all experiments

Limited to 12 participants

Language: English

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: active participation and results obtained, scientific presentation of results and literature, written report; each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This course requires students to have already basic knowledge in scientific methods and expertise in molecular laboratory work (inlcuding pipetting)

Kriterien: Compulsory attendance. Active participation and results obtained (25%), scientific presentation of results and literature (25%), written report (50%);
