Aims, contents and method of the course

Presentation and discussion of special topics of methods used in molecular biology: e.g.: restriction endonucleases/methyltransferases, Southern/Northern/Western blotting, DNA array/ proteomics).

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: quality and completeness of the seminar presentation, active participation in the scientific discussion of the presented publications, written records (the percentage of the subgrades will be announced by the course leader); each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

a. Minimum requirement: attendance, giving a presentation, exam,
b. Assessment standard: presentation 80%, exam 20%

The seminar for exercise IIIA will take place on the days mentioned:
as a block from January 7th to 8th, 2021.
The presentations and discussions will take start from 9 a.m. via Jitsi Meet.

Aims, contents and method of the course

a) Aims:
+) as presenter to prepare a selected topic (selected molecular biology methods; will be assigned) for a presentation in English ("learning by teaching").
+) as listener to contribute constructively in the following discussion after the presentation about presentation content and presentation technique.

Seminar topics (selection): E.coli transformation and cloning vectors, PCR, reporter genes, yeast transformation and yeast two hybrid system, transient and stable transformation of plants, plasmid DNA isolation from bacteria, restriction and modification enzymes, gateway cloning, golden gate cloning, Western Blotting, Southern blotting, CRISPR/Cas9 system, etc
c) methods
Presentations followed by discussion (questions & answers) from the audience; feedback about presentation (technique) will be provided

Compulsory attendance.

the evaluation consists of different performances:

+) written exam at end of seminar (contains all presenation topics):
Assessment criteria: 60%
Permitted material: calculator (smartphones are not allowed)
+) presentation (quality and completeness of the seminar presentation, preparation, content, correctness etc)
Assessment criteria: 30%
+) active participation in the scientific discussion of the presented publications
Assessment criteria: 10%
