Dates: 20 - 31.3.2023 all day.
Prerequisites and Admission Criteria:
1. Attendance at the preliminary meeting (13 March, 2pm, online)
2. Master's students in the Master's programs A066877 Genetik und Entwicklungbiologie, A066834 Molekulare Biologie and A066865 Molecular Biology (focus areas Cellular Architecture and Maintenance and Chromosome and RNA Biology) will be given priority in the allocation of spaces.
3. For students in A066865 Molecular Biology, successful completion of lecture series 301401 Concepts in Molecular Biology is required.
4. For students who did not complete their bachelor's degree at the University of Vienna in Mikrobiologie und Genetik (BMG) or Molekulare Biologie (BMB): Students who have received other practical courses (UE) with mandatory attendance as requirements at the time of admission to the program must pass those in advance (take a copy of the admission letter and a current transcript with you to the preliminary meeting).

- Introduction to C. elegans as an experimental model
- Classical forward genetics incl. genetic mapping and epistasis
- Reverse genetics (RNAi)
- Targeted genome manipulation by homologous recombination
- Cellular analysis by immunofluorescence microscopy
- Seminars on current C. elegans research at the Vienna Biocenter campusA basic understanding of genetics is essential for this course. Completion of the following introductory lecture series is therefore highly recommended: 301557 VO Principles in Genetics and Developmental Biology (WS).
