Aims, contents and method of the course

In the first part of this lecture the students are introduced to methods which are applied for classification of bacteria, and selected bacterial taxa are presented. Additionally, molecular approaches for identification of pathogens are discussed.

Power points of the lectures. In order to amplify the knowledge corresponding parts in Bergey’s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology. Furthermore, original papers published in International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary, Systematic and Applied Microbiology, etc. dealing with the formal description of species are recommended.
