Aims, contents and method of the course

During ca. 10 days 10 experiments were done, to learn first fundamental organic chemical working operations such as extraction, distillation, recrystallization and precise dispensing of liquids by volume. The following experiments give examples for amino acid synthesis, peptide synthesis, derivatisation of monosaccharides, isolation of natural products and application of UV-Vis spectroscopy in protein chemistry. Certain experiments are specifically designed to learn precise working methods and the working with tiny substance amounts.;

In the parallel lecture part the fundamentals of the important working procedures are discussed and furthermore the chemistry of amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, heterocyclic natural products, nucleic acids and lipids is presented.;
Aim of the course: Application of organic-chemical synthetic and analytical methods, Intensification of the knowledge of the chemistry of biopolymers und natural products.

Assessment and permitted materials

Successful performance of all experiments, 2 written tests
