Aims, contents and method of the course

Students shall learn to read scientific papers, evaluate scientific claims and become acquainted to novel scientific techniques from a theoretical point of view. Moreover, they shall train to prepare and present scientific findings and convey the relevance of the results. For that purpose students will present on one scientific article that has to be worked on and prepared in a subgroup of students (own presentation). Moreover, they have to read all papers of the course and participate in the scientific discussions of these papers.

Assessment and permitted materials

To successfully complete the seminar it is necessary (1) to read and understand all articles provided by the organizers, (2) to contribute to the group presentation of one paper and (3) present a part of this presentation. Moreover, (4) active participation in the scientific discussion of the paper is required and thus the presence of the students in the seminars is necessary.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Examination topics

Students need to participate in the seminars (at least 7 times), present their part of the group-presentation and show that they tried to understand the content of the articles.
