Aims, contents and method of the course

Graduates are able to work independently on a specific scientific issue. This includes the sensible application of adequate methods, the evaluation and processing of empirical experimental data obtained, their interpretation using relevant professional literature, and the oral presentation (in English) and written documentation in the form of a Bachelor's thesis (in English) of the project carried out.
The course consists of a self-learning phase (working with provided research papers and materials on Moodle), a practical part (in the teaching laboratory), presentation of the results (with feedback) and preparation of the Bachelor thesis (self-work using writing prompts). Minimal feedback on the Bachelor thesis (in English) will be provided.

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance. For participation in this practical course, all prerequisites (BIO1-BIO3, BIO9, BIO10, BMB1, BMB3 and BMB4) must be completed. The evaluation is based on active participation and obtained results (20%), oral presentation of the results (30%) and written report/Bachelor thesis (50%). For a positive grade, all components must be positively evaluated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Compulsory attendance;
- active participation (discussion contributions, participation, ….): 20%
- results of the performed experiments: 10%
- theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of the methods used: 15%
- documentation and interpretation of the results: 15%
- written final report (bachelor thesis): 40%
