The midterm exam covers the material of the first half of the semester,
the endterm exam the second half, however, implicitely also requiring knowledge of the first chapters.

-dates of the exams will be determined in accordance with students in class to avoid overlaps with other classes or exams
-a formulary and a non-programmable pocket-calculator may be used during exams

Goals: Acquiring of basic practical mathematical skills
Problems have to be ticked and uploaded within the deadline on Moodle; most of you will miss two units due to laboratory courses "Grundübungen" - if you tick the examples and upload them within the deadline the will be counted; missing one unit in addition due to illness, parallel classes etc. is also accepted.

Examination topics

Two tests will be written, and in total 50% of the points have to be achieved.
The first test presents problems of the first half of the semester, the second of the second half.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Basic arithmetics of complex numbers as well as polar and cartesian coordinates and Euler's theorem
Definition of a function, continuity, limits, differentiation, extreme value problems, basic integration techniques (integration by parts and substitution), antiderivatives and definite integrals
Some selected topics in analysis, Taylor and MacLaurin series, partial differentiation, Calcation of extreme values for functions of two variables,
first order differential equations (separable, linear inhomogeneous), second order differential equations (linear, constant coefficients),
Basic linear algebra (matrices and vectors)
