    Classes

Scientific Practice I and II are internships (lab rotations) in individual research labs (PLEASE IGNORE THE LIST OF LECTURERS; check the link below about finding participating labs), aimed at training students in scientific method and various research techniques in the context of research questions/hypotheses addressed in the chosen lab. These internships can be carried out in ANY molecular biology-related research labs of your choice at the institutes of campus Vienna Biocenter, research institutes in Vienna and beyond (also internationally) or in R&D laboratories of for-profit industrial partners. DO NOT ALLOCATE POINTS FOR THESE INTERNSHIPS! THERE IS NO REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THESE INTERNSHIPS; registrations are possible throughout the year by filling out the registration form available at https://molekularebiologie.univie.ac.at/en/lab-internships/scientific-practice/and forwarding it for approval to the coordinator. Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Experimental work on a topic of molecular biology and/or neuroscience with the duration of 2 month. It may be performed in one of the working groups at the Max Perutz Labs or at the Center for Brain Research.
Individual instruction in advanced techniques applied in Molecular Cell Biology to answer specific questions related to ongoing research. Independent design and execution of experiments, documentation, discussion, and summary of results in a protocol.

    Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment of all experiments, techniques and results, the written protocol and the presentation of the work performed. This assessment is made available by the group leader (= suggestion of grade).

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Compulsory attendence.
The participant should be able to autonomously perform experiments particularly with the help of molecular biological techniques.

    Examination topics

The participants will be involved in ongoing research projects under individual supervision in one of the participating groups.
