Aims, contents and method of the course

This course features contemporary topics of particular interest and importance in the field of biochemistry and molecular pharmacology of bone diseases. The goal of this course is to give students a strong foundation in clinical principles that underly bone metabolism and mechanistic properties involving the dysfunction of osteoclasts and osteoblasts.

Cell biology of bone cells leading to disease
Prophylaxis, current and future therapeutic strategies
Diagnostic methods:
Quantification of ion concentrations important for calcium phosphate homeostasis
Biochemical markers of bone resorption and bone formation
Bone density measurements
Radiology and scintigraphy
Bone biopsy
Molecular biology
Metabolic bone diseases
Glucocorticoid induced
Hyperthyroidism induced
Rheumatoid disease associated
Rickets and osteomalacia
Renal osteodystrophy
