Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Violence against women and children is a socially immanent and global
problem. Among its main causes are the power imbalance between men and women
on the one hand and adults and children on the other hand, prevailing gender
stereotypes and role models which force women and children into a
subordinate position. Violence against women and children committed by either state organs or
private persons has in the meanwhile been recognised as a human rights abuse
by international standards. In this seminar, selected aspects of the combat of violence from a women's
and child¿s rights perspective shall be discussed on the basis of
participants' seminar papers. International and regional aspects of the
implementation of human rights standards as well as country-specific
problems and possible solutions shall be addressed.
