Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Drug-receptor-interactions, classification of different targets for drug action (receptors, ion channels, enzymes, carrier molecules), structure and functions of selected receptors (ligand-gated ion channels, G-protein-coupled receptors, nuclear receptors, kinase-linked receptors), pharmacology of second messenger systems (e.g. the adenylate cyclase/cyclic AMP system and the phospholipase C/inositol phosphate system), interaction of ion channels with G-proteins, the molecular architecture of voltage gated ion channels, their function and pharmacological properties, the release of chemical mediators, routes of drug administration, absorption, distribution, elimination (phase I reactions, the cytochrome P450 system), phase II reactions, first pass effect, active drug metabolites, renal excretion, pharmacokinetics (including compartment models), the autonomic nervous system (cholinergic and noradrenergic transmission, transmission by purines and 5-hydroxytryptamin), peptides and proteins as drugs, nitric oxide, local hormones.

Assessment and permitted materials
