Aims, contents and method of the course

In the frame of this one-hour lecture, an overview of the following topics will be provided:
" Basic principles of risk assessment for xenobiotics and natural toxic ingredients in food
" Risk management within the food chain
" Legal framework for ensuring food safety in the EU, in particular regarding contaminants, food additives, flavouring substances, food contact materials, Novel Food and Food Supplements
" Aspects of food labelling and traceability

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objective of this lecture is to provide an overview of the regulatory framework which is in place in the European Union with regard to food. Specific consideration is given to the regulatory and organisatory measures which were taken in the EU in the aftermath of a series of food scandals as well as to practical aspects of risk management in the realm of food safety.
