Aims, contents and method of the course
An overview on basic techniques in molecular biology (isolation, separation and sequencing of DNA, PCR, microarray technology) and application of these methods for genotyping will be presented. To illustrate the pharmacological importance of point mutations, the polymorphism of a cytochrome (CYP2D6) will be demonstrated and discussed in detail.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This course intends to provide insights into the variability of the human genome (DNA polymorphisms), into pharmacogenetic methods and their therapeutic relevance.
