Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Globalisation has become intrinsically linked with the actions of transnational corporations (TNCs). TNCs have developed into powerful players in the international arena. Initiatives on the political level have sought to reconcile economic interests of TNCs with social gains, while on the other hand trying to prevent them from committing human rights violations. The seminar will deal, among others, with the following questions:
What are the human rights responsiblities of transnational corporations when they do business? What are the respective state responsibilities?
Which international initiatives exist to bring TNCs to adhere to social and human rights norms?
How effective are these inititiatives, for example the UN Global Compact or the OECD Guidelines?
