Aims, contents and method of the course

Students identify and quantify diagnositc interessting and clinically relevant laboratory parameters (enzymes, hormones, metabolites, vitamines, lipides, drugs, ...) using new chemical, turbidimetric, immunchromatographic methods (rapid-tests, point of care-equipment) derived from biological material (urine, blood). advantages and disadvantages of these tests, which are often used in public pharmacies, are compiled and their limits discussed. Further, constitutional and physiological parameters are measured comparing different techniques. Clinical-pharmaceutical data form Austria Codex are interpreted and students are introduced to methods of "medication mamagement".

Assessment and permitted materials

Lehrveranstaltung mit immanentem Prüfungscharakter. Für die Durchführung der Proben in allen Sektionen wird ein Grundwert angesetzt. Zusätzlich wird eine Leistungskontrolle mit Fragen durchgeführt, die Beantwortung fließt in die Mitarbeit ein. Es werden Aufgaben gestellt, die auf Moodle zeitgerecht ausgearbeitet und hochgeladen werden müssen. Wird eine Sektion z.B. durch Zuspätkommen teilweise nicht absolviert, wird ein Punkt abgezogen. Es besteht Anwesenheitspflicht!

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students are able to collect labor-diagnostic parameters and know how to interpret results. They further know the basic techiques and pre-treatment of biological material. Students know strenghts and weaknesses of various lab-diagnostic methods as well as factors that influence results (sex, age, ...)
