Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to obtain an overview about the development of dermal formulations and the techniques required for their production and characterisation. Contents include skin biology, colloidal formulations in the nanometer range, high and low energy production techniques as well as established methods for characterisation of dermal formulations and skin itself (formulation analysis: optical light microscopy and electron microscopy, light scattering techniques, rheology; skin analysis: TEWL, hydration, pH, sebum; penetration/permeation analysis: diffusion cells, tape stripping, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, confocal Raman spectroscopy).

Methods: The contents are presented and discussed by means of ppt presentations.

Assessment and permitted materials

Short written examinations are handed out every two sessions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

All exams have to be evaluated in a positive manner (>60%). The grading depends on the achieved points:
exam 1 = 1 point
exam 2 = 2 points
exam 3 = 2 points
5 points = Sehr Gut, 4 points = Gut, 3 points = Befriedigend, 4 points = Genügend, 5 points = Nicht Genügend
