The course is planned to be conducted on-site at the university. If necessary, it will be transferred to an electronic format and can be completed through distance learning. Once registered, you will receive up-to-date information concerning possible changes.
In case of any overlap with other courses, students are permitted to arrange their physical attendance in class flexibly.
The classes on 12 and 21 June are reserved for the final presentations (by individual appointment; the presentations can, alternatively, be submitted as videos).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course provides students with useful tools for preparing and delivering presentations. It focusses on presentation skills, the use of visual aids, body language and elocution, as well as science communication for the general public and in interdisciplinary contexts.

Participants from study programmes other than Nutritional Sciences are welcome! Possible recognition should be clarified with the respective Directorate of Studies.

The working language is German. Participants can, however, choose to give their presentations and other contributions in English. Students with little or no knowledge of German can complete the course entirely in English and are cordially welcomed as participants!

Assessment and permitted materials

Presence in class (exceptions and individual arrangements are possible upon prior notice).

A 3-minute presentation of a chosen topic, aimed at a specific target group, by means of a speech and, if desired, presentation slides, followed by a question and discussion round.

5-10 presentation slides, pertaining to the selected topic, to be uploaded on Moodle.

A journalistic article on the selected topic, to be uploaded on Moodle.

Each task will be graded with a number of points. The maximum points are: for the article 30; for the slides 30; for the presentation 40 (see also under “Minimum requirements and assessment criteria”).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Giving effective presentations by means of speech and visualisation, responding to audience questions and statements. Processing information for specific target groups, science communication.

Points and grades: 0-50 P = 5, 51-69 = 4, 70-80 = 3, 81-90 = 2, 91-100 = 1.

Examination topics

Presentation skills, the use of visual aids, body language and elocution; processing information; responding to questions and statements.
