I will give an introduction to the topic of international food and nutrition security together with the seminar group (09.04. 2025) which will gather the week before Easter. The seminar groud will join us as well on 10th April in the morning hours as we are expectin a guest speaker from the university in St. Pölten, who has a long experience in Ethiopia (amongst others, she gathered data for her PhD).

Please note, that I have organized a visit to "doctors without borders (Ärzte ohne Grenzen)" in Vienna and you will be invited to join this vist. We will talk about if during our first session.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Concepts of Food and Nutrition Security, Nutrition Transition, Anthropometry/ News Growth Reference, Complementary Feeding, Food Security Situation, Food Aid, Urban Food Security and Livelihoods, Refugee Nutrition, HIV/ AIDS and Nutrition Security, Micronutrients, World Trade/ Fair Trade, Population Development, Gender

Assessment and permitted materials

The marking will be based on an essay. Depending on when you register for the exam, I will send you a list of three topics to your e-mail adress. You wil chose one of them and write an essay of around 10 pages. You will have 2 weeks to complete this task, after which you will send your essay in pdf format back to my e-mail adress
written exam (either German or English)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The essays will be judged in the following manner:
table of content, logical structure of the essay, conclusions, references
