Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives
Students will deepen their knowledge in genetics and molecular biology. This will be supported on a case-by-case basis via independent compilation of pertinent literature (textbooks or original articles). This will enable them to assess the subjects of genetics and molecular biology in the context of nutritional sciences.

Contents
Applied genetics

DNA replication
Telomeres and effects of dietary patterns
Effect of nutrition on epigenetic mechanisms

Applied molecular biology
Molecular mechanisms of tumor pathogenesis and impact of food/nutrients

Methods
Power point presentations
Journal articles and reviews on current topics of Applied Genetics and Molecular Biology after prior announcement

Assessment and permitted materials

Final written exam, 60 min (multiple choice) requiring personal attendance, no supporting resources allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

at least 60% of maximum points to pass the exam
Valuation key:
1–very good (100,00-90,00%)
2–good (89,99-80,00%)
3–satisfactory (79,99-70,00%)
4–adequate (69,99-60,00%)
5–insufficient (59,99-0,00%)

Examination topics

Relevant for the exam are (in each case from the current course schedule): Lectures on the topics listed above, discussion of pertinent literature
