Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

1. General Introduction to Chromatography (separating principles, used phases, parameters, methods, detectors)

2. Learning about different chromatographic methods
(thin layer-chromatography, liquid-chromatography, gas-chromatography)

3. Main focus HPLC (High-pressure-liquid-Chromatography)
-stationary phase / mobile phase
-separating column (principle, function)
-UV/VIS, fluorescence detection
-pump (isocratic, gradient)
-sampler (injector, autosampler)
-evaluation of data
-interpretation of data
-creating a separating-assay
-trouble shooting

4.practical demonstrations using devices

Assessment and permitted materials

Final part of the lecture will be a Powerpoint-presentation of each participant of 10 minutes with additional discussion.

Grading key is as follows:
40% presence (minimum 80%)
20% participation
40% final presentation

A postitive grade is only given, if all criteria are fulfilled.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students should become familiar with HPLC. They should understand the background and work on chromatographic problems themselves. Students should be able to operate on a HPLC device.

Examination topics

The lecture should be known as interactive exchange between lecturer and students. The immanent character of the lecture is to demand the students maximally. Illustrative material as well as video-clips support the learning effect.

Reading list
